Clean Up Your Vibe, Love!
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and I, for one, am STOKED!
I have struggled with my mental health for the majority of my life, so I know just how dark, lonely, and scary the bowels of the mind can be.
I have also done my shadow work:
buzzed my entire head and kept it buzzed for two years to stop hiding behind my hair and finally get comfy with the skin I’m in
overhauled my eating habits to eat for health and not vanity results
ditched the acidic skincare and learned to create my own managing my acne-prone skin with essential oils and other natural products
retired from drinking alcohol (20 months ago)
pivoted my entire life to align with my Life Purpose of helping others raise their vibe & love themselves beyond measure
found a great therapist to help me unpack some things that are a bit too heavy for me to lift on my own
Taking care of your mental health is a job that never truly ends. The amount of care required is unique to each of us, but we’re all susceptible to the highs and lows of mental health.
I’ve tried almost everything, including antidepressants, to manage my mental, and here are a few things I found work for me:
daily meditation practice
diffusing essential oils (aromatherapy)
wearing crystals (especially around the neck)
daily yoga practice
regular fitness routine (besides yoga)
journaling
Earthing
Reiki (Energy Healing)
These are just a handful of ways I keep my mental health in tip-top shape.
Are you familiar with any of these? How about all of them? Do you know what’s interesting? After finding and falling in love with each of these, I learned how to teach & share them with the rest of the world.
Honestly, a career in Health & Wellness was never my dream.
I had always grown up in a health-conscious family, but the thought of helping others become healthier didn’t do anything for me. My first dream was to be an Actress, but a family member put that fire out. Then I shifted towards being a masseuse til I fell in love with the idea of being a Marine. My mom asked me not to go into the Armed Forces (which I don’t regret), so I decided to just live and travel and follow my wild heart.
It wasn’t until I became pregnant with my son at 27 that I became hyperfocused on what I was putting in and on my body and how I was moving it. After giving birth, the pressure to “bounce back” taught me the tough lesson of losing weight after your body has changed by birthing a human. An 8-lb 2-oz human, at that.
Little did I know this would be the beginning of my shift to a more natural way of living with a heavy emphasis on prioritizing our health and wellness.
Because I nursed my son for his first two years of life, I cooked 99% of my meals and made sure that I was eating cleanly. I joined a network marketing company offering shakes and other supplements and never looked back.
Ten years later, I’m blessed to eat, sleep, and breathe Health & Wellness while helping others WITHOUT sacrificing my mental (physical or spiritual) health.
If you’re brand new to putting yourself first without feeling guilty, or maybe you’re overwhelmed or unsure where to begin, I highly recommend you begin with creating a regular meditation & yoga practice.
